Answers Reminder #38: Every Thing In Your Life Has Lead Up To This Moment

Every thing in your life has lead up to this moment. Whether you’re on the foul line in the biggest basketball game of your life or trying to maneuver your shopping basket through a crowded supermarket, some chain of not so random events since your birth has lead you to the place where you are standing at this very moment. It might not seem that glamorous when this moment is taking out the trash, washing the dog, or standing in line at the DMV, but its life.

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Deal with the right here and now right now, while it is here. Learn to live in the moment, and make the best of what is happening in your world right now. Yesterday has past and tomorrow is something you can prepare for, but you can’t be stuck fretting over it.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/8/10

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/8/10

Today’s Quote:“A person is always startled when he hears himself seriously called an old man for the first time.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Today’s Question: Are you old by age or by mentality?

My Thoughts: I’m not asking how old you are or how old you feel. I’m asking in which way do you ‘feel’ older. Does a quick look at your age on your driver’s license make you feel old? Or have you been prematurely aging due to your lifestyle, and look and feel older than your calendar age?

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/7/10

Today’s Quote:“Believe in life! Always human beings will live and progress to greater, broader and fuller life.” – W. E. B. Du Bois

Today’s Question: Do you cherish, respect, and celebrate life?

My Thoughts: In the original ‘Lethal Weapon,’ Mel Gibson played a character that was more than a loose cannon. He had no care for life, especially his own. I’m pretty sure you aren’t a homicide detective with a death wish. But you might not have all the respect for life that you may claim.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/6/10

Today’s Quote:“The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.” – Moliere

Today’s Question: Do you have the ability to wait until the right moment to act?

My Thoughts: Timing is everything. Act too soon or too late and you could miss out on what you are going for. Don’t let impatience or laziness keep you from achieving what you really want. It may take some time, but you must develop the right amount of patience and resolve.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/5/10

Today’s Quote: “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Today’s Question: What is keeping you from facing the fear of the unknown?

My Thoughts: When facing the unknown, what do you have to be afraid of? Maybe your fears are warranted, but maybe not. If don’t know what you are stepping into, you don’t know that you are stepping into a fearful situation. Chances are it’s not even as bad as you think it could be. Take a chance, take that first step, and then see if your fears are warranted.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/4/10

Today’s Quote: “It is a waste of energy to be angry with a man who behaves badly, just as it is to be angry with a car that won’t go.” – Bertrand Russell

Today’s Question: Is your anger focused in the right direction?

My Thoughts: I’m not going to dismiss your anger. In fact, I’m sure you have the right to be angry. I just want to make sure you are not taking out that anger on the wrong target. Focusing your anger on those who don’t deserve it, and can’t do anything about whatever is making you angry, does nothing but possibly make the target of your anger angry with you. Try focusing your anger into a constructive solution to your problem instead.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/3/10

Today’s Quote: “Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes . . . but no plans.” – Peter Drucker

Today’s Question: Are you truly committed to the cause?

My Thoughts: The words are easy enough to say, but do you truly live up to your commitments? It’s easy to let the circumstances of life weigh you down and distract you, but do you use that as an excuse to back out of what you have committed to do? When you make a commitment, you are making a pledge to see an issue to its end, not to a random time when you decide you are done. Whether something as serious as marriage vows or small as a lunch date, you’re putting your word on the line, and binding someone else to your time line. If you find yourself breaking commitments, you better know what’s truly on the line.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/2/10

Today’s Quote: “Realize that if you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it.” – Anthony J. D’Angelo

Today’s Question: Is whining your weapon of choice for getting your way?

My Thoughts: Do you think that enough whining about an issue is an effective ‘secret’ weapon to making sure you get your way? Well, for starters, it’s not that great of a secret. Use the power of whining more than once, and you’ll get a reputation. Plus, there has to be a more effective way to state your case.

Answers Reminder #37: There Is Always Tomorrow

Don’t give up. Don’t give in. You may be about to spend what seems like your last ounce of will and drive in a fruitless endeavor, but it is not your last ounce. With eight hours of sleep, you will be recharged and refreshed and ready to face the world and your fruitless endeavor again. Is it a fruitless endeavor? Evaluate and determine whether you should shift your focus elsewhere. Is it worthy? Don’t let the fatigue of the day get you down. There is always tomorrow.

THIS WEEK’S TIP: You always have tomorrow to try again. It doesn’t matter how many times you failed today, tomorrow brings a whole new 24-hours of possibility. Rest up tonight and get ready to do whatever it takes to succeed first thing in the morning. Evaluate you projects or problems with a fresh mind and see if you need to adjust or scrap your current plan. But don’t stop working toward your goals. And if you run out of time again . . . there is always another tomorrow.

Today’s Quote & Question For 2/1/10

Today’s Quote: “People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.” – Brendan Francis

Today’s Question: Do you take the advice you ask for?

My Thoughts: You reach out to ask for advice. The person you asked took the time to give you their advice. And from there . . . you go off and do it your own way anyway. Is that the way you planned it? Doing your best to ignore unsolicited and thoroughly bad advice is probably the best way to avoid conflict with the unwanted giver. The same crass action tossed the way of a person who you solicited good advice from is shameful. Why would you ask for input if you didn’t plan on incorporating it into you plans?
