Today’s Quote: “To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.” – Thomas Paine

Today’s Question: Are you supporting your argument with words out of context?

My Thoughts: Former NBA All-Star Latrell Sprewell did have a valid argument over not getting paid the money he wanted back in 2004. He was at the time signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and was waiting on a contract extension by the season opener or he would mull over the options of a sign-and-trade deal to get out of town sooner rather than later, or wait out the season to become a free agent. In a season where he was due to make $14.6 million, he could have told the world that the money being offered him was an insult because of how valuable or productive a player he had been, and still could be, compared to the current crop of completion in the game at that time. Instead, the then 34-year-old Sprewell uttered the now famous line, “I got my family to feed.” Obviously, he could have fed a lot of families on the money he was expected to make, and made himself out to be worse of a person than a lot of fans thought he already was. Have you ever found yourself making a completely out of context statement in support of your argument? Did it help or hurt your case?
