Today’s Quote: “Traditions are the guideposts driven deep in our subconscious minds. The most powerful ones are those we can’t even describe, aren’t even aware of.” – Ellen Goodman

Today’s Question: What is your favorite tradition?

My Thoughts: It is traditions that keep us humble. Traditions keep us grounded, and keep us coming back to our roots. What is your favorite tradition?

Today’s Quote: “The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself.” – Oscar Wilde

Today’s Question: Is there a good time to give into temptation?

My Thoughts: Some just can’t fight temptation. So why fight temptation? Maybe the fight you’re fighting just isn’t worth it. Maybe the fight you’re fighting is worth it, but you could use a break from the pressure.

We’ve had a previous posting about becoming a gift giver. This one has a different theme aimed at those addicted to giving. This is a note for those people who either feel the need or feel needy, and will spend there last dime to cheer a person up or bail a person out. What good does getting strikes against your credit in the name of cementing a questionable relationship?

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Check your bank statement and then keep your wallet in check. Love, despite what the commercials tell you, is not presents. It is presence. Your presence with the ones you care about is all they really want from you.

Today’s Quote: “Honest differences are often a healthy sign of progress.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Today’s Question: How well do you argue?

My Thoughts: Sometimes your power of persuasion comes right down to your ability to win a good old fashioned shouting match. While it might not be the most eloquent of communications skills, the ability to hold yourself well in an argument will get you just as far as basic diplomacy in some situations. And sometimes, it may be the only way to get your way. Argument tactics are not just about fighting to win, but fighting by a certain set of rules to give you and your opponent a chance to pull back and save face if that proves to be the wisest choice. How would you rate your ability to win an argument?

Today’s Quote:“Look to your health; and if you have it, praise God and value it next to conscience; for health is the second blessing that we mortals are capable of, a blessing money can’t buy.” – Izaak Walton

Today’s Question: Would you choose health or wealth?

My Thoughts: We have all heard stories of the rich man on his death bed willing to trade all his money for a little more time on the planet. But would that be such a popular trade, or even a possible trade, if they were a poor man? And if the will to become rich is the reason the man was rich in the first place, along with all the good he had done along the way, would it really be worth it? If you were given the choice, would you really choose health over wealth?

Today’s Quote: “Sometimes when you look in his eyes you get the feeling that someone else is driving.” – David Letterman

Today’s Question: Are you really in control?

My Thoughts: You think you are the one making the decisions. You see yourself barking out the orders and exerting your will. But is the power really coming from you? Could it be coming from someone above you and just using you to get the job done?

Today’s Quote: “Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.” – G. K. Chesterton

Today’s Question: How well do you multitask?

My Thoughts: There are now studies that prove that the act of multitasking is akin to begging for failure. Yet we not only continue to multitask, we believe we have no choice! Since you’re going to do it anyway, how well do you gauge your skills at multitasking?

Today’s Quote: “One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done.” – Marie Curie

Today’s Question: When you act, does anyone notice?

My Thoughts: We all want to matter. When we act, we want to put the world on notice as to what we are about to do. There might be times in the day when you may desire an invisibility cloak to shield you from the view of others, but not as you are in the middle of an important action. For some, that’s when they are noticed the least, and their actions seem to them useless and wasted. Are you getting the attention you crave when you are in action?

Today’s Quote: “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” – Epicurus

Today’s Question: Why would you want what you haven’t got?

My Thoughts: If someone has something that you want, and it is a precious commodity, it could lead to jealousy. That would be the greatest deterrent to coveting other persons belongings. But it could also lead to inspiration, if it’s not having the thing you want, but wanting something like the thing they have. A precious commodity maybe, but not the only one.

Today’s Quote: “Quit now, you’ll never make it. If you disregard this advice, you’ll be halfway there.” – David Zucker

Today’s Question: What keeps you from giving up?

My Thoughts: When times start to get tough, it’s the people who have the resolve to stay in the fight that ultimately have the edge. The problem comes from how to keep yourself in the fight. Even the most noblest of causes can look like a lost cause after you have lost enough skirmishes. To stay strong and effective in the fight, you got to have something–the right something–to keep you motivated and focused. What does keep you in the fight?
