ANSWERS REMINDER #16: RECOGNIZE FAILURE, THEN LEARN FROM IT

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, right? What if repeated attempts just bring you more failures? There is something to be said for showing perseverance, but there is also something to be said for knowing when you are defeated and should try to save face. Do you have a fear of failure?

THIS WEEK’S TIP: No one wants to have to start over from scratch or give up their pursuits completely, but there are times when all you can do is admit defeat. If your idea isn’t sound, your game plan will fail. The key is to not become defeated yourself. Now that you have learned what will not work, you can focus on new and fresh ideas that just might make it.

Today’s Quote: “There are no great people in this world, only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet.” – William Frederick Halsey, Jr.

Today’s Question: Are you prepared to rise to the occasion?

My Thoughts: Your time is coming. That opportunity that you have been waiting for is almost here. Have you been actually working towards your opportunity, marking the time until arrival with hard work and preparation? Or have you been waiting with a lot of hope and not a lot of preparation to step into your new position, hoping that what you came with will be enough to make it work?

Today’s Quote: “If you don’t have enemies, you don’t have character.” – Paul Newman

Today’s Question: Are you making enough enemies?

My Thoughts: A person without any enemies is a person who isn’t trying hard enough. At anything. And even if the point isn’t to make as many enemies as possible, any act you make is destined to be to the detriment of someone else’s plan, and the greater the plan, the greater the opposition.

Today’s Quote: “Man is the only animal that laughs and weeps, for he is the only animal that is struck with the difference between what things are and what they ought to be.” – William Hazlitt

Today’s Question: Can one person really make a difference?

My Thoughts: We hear it being said often, but can one person really be enough to make a major difference? Are you one of those people?

Today’s Quote: “Always render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your task may be.” – Og Mandino

Today’s Question: What is good service?

My Thoughts: We can easily define bad service. Bad service seems like it is entirely too common moment to moment, day to day. But can you actually define what ‘good service’ is, other than the opposite of bad service? Does a person deserve good service just for being human? And the biggest question is, are you actually giving good service to others yourself?

Today’s Quote: “The world is my classroom and every man is my teacher” – Myles Munroe

Today’s Question: What did you learn today?

My Thoughts: Depending on what time of day you actually read this, you might not have had much ‘day’ to experience. Still, it doesn’t take a full 8 hour shift at work to pick up some knowledge. You could have ‘learned’ something, or a few somethings early on. What’s important is that you keep your mind open for learning from the moment you wake (which for me, means after a few cups of coffee) until the moment you lie down for bed.

Today’s Quote: “There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness.” – Josh Billings

Today’s Question: Who do you need to forgive?

My Thoughts: Throughout the course of your life, you will be wronged. And it won’t happen once or twice in a lifetime. It will occur over and over for as long as you continue to live. All of these wrongs will hurt for a time, but sooner or later, you will have to get on with your life and let it go, or the wrongs will hold on to you and hold you back. Who needs to be forgiven in your heart and in your head so that you are no long being held back?

Today’s Quote: “It is our choices . . . that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” – J. K. Rowling

Today’s Question: Are you making the right choices?

My Thoughts: Every day we are faces with thousands of chances to make unconscious choices and hundred of chances to make conscious ones. With all the choices being made everyday, are you making the right ones for your life? And if not, are you making too many excuses for not making the right choices?

ANSWERS REMINDER #15: ALWAYS SELL YOURSELF

You never know who you might end up standing next to in line. Even thought it is very rare in this day and age for an actress to expect to be discovered in a soda shop, the person who could be directly or indirectly responsible for you reaching that goal in life could be anyone you meet anywhere. The only way you will ever find out who needs what you’ve got to offer is to ask people want they need, and then offer what you have to fill that need, just like a salesperson.

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Salespeople know that there is always another good product waiting to be sold, even if it is not in their current inventory. Think of yourself as a salesperson of ‘yourself,’ and always try to sell yourself in the most positive light. You might not have the talent, skills, or ‘product’ that your ‘buyer’ needs today, but he might be in the market for it next week. And the buyer also has clients, customers, and colleagues that might take on a supplier like you with the right endorsement.

Today’s Quote: “The pendulum will swing back.” – Joseph G. Cannon

Today’s Question: Do you prepare for the possible bad times while times are good?

My Thoughts: Just like the story of the grasshopper and the ant, you’d be much better off preparing for the figurative and literal winters in your life to come well before they arrive. Along those same lines, you should be preparing just as hard for the possibilities of good times when you are currently down. So what is your reason for not being prepared?
