Today’s Quote: “Quit now, you’ll never make it. If you disregard this advice, you’ll be halfway there.” – David Zucker

Today’s Question: What keeps you from giving up?

My Thoughts: When times start to get tough, it’s the people who have the resolve to stay in the fight that ultimately have the edge. The problem comes from how to keep yourself in the fight. Even the most noblest of causes can look like a lost cause after you have lost enough skirmishes. To stay strong and effective in the fight, you got to have something–the right something–to keep you motivated and focused. What does keep you in the fight?

To get more positive things in your life, you have to find a way to get more negative things out of your life. There is only so much time or space one person can manage and occupy before they begin to feel the stress begin to mount. So to expect to gain more without giving something up in the process is a pretty foolish notion.

THIS WEEK’S TIP: To add new things to your life and routine, you must give up something. Or you must modify an activity so that it allows for most of the good of the new activity. One example: if you’re out of shape you must exercise more. You can handle this by adding a routine jog around the neighborhood and eliminating some of the time you’ve spent in the past snacking while watching soap opera. Or you can get your fix in by joining a gym with lots of TVs near the tread mills.

Today’s Quote: “We’re here for a reason. I believe a bit of the reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark.” – Whoopi Goldberg

Today’s Question: Why are you here?

My Thoughts: No really, why are you here? Why here instead of somewhere else? And would you rather be here than somewhere else?

Today’s Quote: “Life is a long lesson in humility.” – James M. Barrie

Today’s Question: What life lesson has taught you the most so far?

My Thoughts: How many serious life lessons have you picked up in your life? Which one would you pick as a standout that has taught you the most.

Today’s Quote: “Nothing ever goes away.” – Barry Commoner

Today’s Question: Is there something you wish you could take back?

My Thoughts: Rack up enough time in life and you will also rack up plenty of words said and actions executed that you would have wished never actually happened. Nobody’s perfect, and most of the best lessons in life come in the aftermath of mistakes made. But if it were possible to take a step back in time, and take back one word that should not have been spoken or on action that should not have been committed, what would it be?

Today’s Quote: “Under all speech that is good for anything there lies a silence that is better. Silence is deep as Eternity; speech is shallow as Time.” – Thomas Carlyle

Today’s Question: What does your silence say about you?

My Thoughts: Some see silence as a sign of weakness. Some see silence as a sign of strength. Some see silence as an anomaly, and when the silence comes, so does trouble. Some see silence as the norm, and when the silence breaks, all hell is about to break loose. Everyone has to have moments of silence in their lives, and your personal silence says a lot about your personality. What does your silence say about you?

Today’s Quote: “Nothing is said that has not been said before.” – Terence

Today’s Question: What is your favorite exercise in futility?

My Thoughts: Everyone has their own batch of seemingly useless activities that they are compelled to complete on a regular basis. Some have some marginal value, but most have absolutely no redeeming value. But you do them anyway. Maybe contractually, maybe just out of a stupid habit. Which useless activity would you call your favorite?

Today’s Quote: “Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.” – Mark Twain

Today’s Question: How long does it take for you to break in a new habit?

My Thoughts: Some people say you can break a habit with 21 day of repeated action. Some say the moment you get fed up with it, you’ll give it up. Everyone has a method to help them break free of a habit that is holding them back. Once you decide to break your bad habit, it’s just a matter of figuring out the formula that works for you. How long does it usually take you to bust a bad habit?

Today’s Quote: “I really do believe I can accomplish a great deal with a big grin, I know some people find that disconcerting, but that doesn’t matter.” – Beverly Sills

Today’s Question: How would you rate your smile?

My Thoughts: The power of a smile is hard to quantify, yet it is easy to see its effects. Think of that smile given by that cute guy or girl ask they ask you to lend them your notes from class. Think of the smile of your preteen niece or nephew as they ask you if they can they please stay up late. Now, think of the power you wield with your smile. How would you rate your smile?

Have you noticed that you read the same information multiple times in multiple forms? Do you obtain so much research on a project that it’s now harder to make a decision? Do you speak a language of acronyms and buzzwords? Do you know what any of them mean?

THIS WEEK’S TIP: don’t let information overload be the source of your burnout. Learn to manage the inputs and their sources before they become a burden on you. Learn how your email program filters incoming mail and set up folders to help your prioritize. Save yourself brain drain and some money by dropping subscriptions to magazines and periodicals that you know you don’t have time or interest for anymore. Get some assistance sifting through the basic data, and let someone present you a palatable summary. The magic of the abundance of information available today can quickly become a jinx from having too much to process physically & mentally.
